Herons And A Spruce Goose

Today my main aim was to get a photo of  a heron, even though in the past they have been unwelcome visitors to my garden pond, I still think they are fantastic birds. Many years ago the Spruce Goose visited the area for the weekend and even though I never got to see it on the ground I did see it leaving on the Monday morning, that image has never left me, that huge bird going so slow it seemed to be defying gravity just hanging in the air.  Herons always remind me of it, their huge wings flapping so slow you would think they could never get of the ground, but they do and they look magnificent in flight.

Well as you can see, no pictures of herons.  On the way to the location were I expected to see some, as we passed by a small pool a heron flew up from from the edge of the pond, don't know who was more surprised, the heron or us.  Not expecting to see one there the camera (as so often is the way) was in its case and the heron disapered into the distance. Later on I did see two more but they saw me first and were off too fast to get a decent photo. Will try again soon.
